New Building Nearing Completion

While adverse weather slowed construction in the early part of this year, our new building is nearing completion. The contractor is projecting that we may be in the new building soon, sometime in late October 2009.

In the fourth quarter of 2007 we set a goal to raise $500,000 for initial construction costs, and, this goal was achieved in December 2008. We secured our bank loan in December 2008 to cover the remaining construction costs and we signed a construction management agreement in late October 2008. We broke ground in November 2008 and full construction began in December 2008.

God is continuing to bless our building efforts, as well as the spiritual work of the Great Smoky Mountains Church of Christ. Our missionary obligations and outreach programs are being fully maintained as we construct this new building, which will meet the needs of our congregation as well as serving the needs of the thousands of visitors we have each year.

As indicated above, we have secured the initial funds necessary for the facility materials and construction. These funds, however, do not fully cover building furnishings such as auditorium pews and pulpit, class room tables/chairs/cabinets, security hardware and other necessary miscellaneous equipment for worship and classrooms. The current projected costs for these furnishings are projected to be approximately $100,000. Our building fund drive is still in progress and is intended to help raise money for these furnishings and to minimize the final note at the end of construction. Please consider joining us in this effort.
